The Hike: Alta Via 2, Dolomites, Italy
Among the world’s great hut-to-hut trekking destinations, nothing compares to the Dolomites in northern Italy, thanks to a unique Alpine trifecta: sharply etched limestone mountains, rifugios that serve up some of the best food and drink in the Alps, and the chance to climb a via ferrata. A via ferrata, or “iron path,” is a route that uses metal rungs, cables, and ladders to enable even non-climbers to safely scale vertical rock.
