‘Beautiful and gentle soul’ who fell off cruise ship identified as search to find him suspended

The Australian man who went overboard from a cruise ship earlier this week has been remembered as a 'kind and beautiful' soul after the search to find him was suspended. Brisbane man Warwick Tollemache, 35, went overboard on the Quantum of The Seas at about 11pm (early Wednesday evening AEST), about 1400 kilometres south of the Hawaiian islands. An immediate search by the ship's crew was conducted and the US Coast Guard was called in to assist. "Our family is heartbroken at the loss of our beloved Warwick," his family said in a statement. "He was a kind, beautiful, and gentle soul who was adored by everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed. "We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time. Thank you for your understanding." White woman whose claim caused Emmett Till murder has died

The white woman who accused Black teenager Emmett Till of whistling at and accosting her in Mississippi in 1955 — causing his lynching, which galvanised a generation of activists to rise up in the Civil Rights Movement — has died at 88. Carolyn Bryant Donham died in hospice care on Tuesday night in Westlake, Louisiana, according to a death report filed on Thursday in the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. After being accused of wolf-whistling at a white woman in Mississippi, 14-year-old African-American boy Emmett Till was kidnapped, murdered and mutilated on August 28, 1955. (AP) Her death marks the last chance for anyone to be held accountable for the kidnapping and murder that shocked the world. Proud Boys viewed as ‘Donald Trump’s army’: prosecutor

After months of legal battles, infighting between defence lawyers and dozens of rejected mistrial motions, the federal criminal trial against five Proud Boys accused of plotting to attack the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, moved to its final stage. One prosecutor and two defence lawyers gave their closing arguments to the Washington, DC, jury tasked with deciding whether Enrique Tarrio, Dominic Pezzola, Zachary Rehl, Joseph Biggs and Ethan Nordean are guilty of several federal crimes, including seditious conspiracy. The Justice Department's Conor Mulroe argued that the defendants stirred fellow members of the far-right Proud Boys toward violence in the lead up to January 6 and directed them that day to attack the iconic building.
