‘Mary Poppins’ actress Glynis Johns dies at 100

Glynis Johns, the British actress known for her role as feminist icon Mrs Banks in 1964's Mary Poppins, has died. She was 100. Johns' longtime manager Mitch Clem told CNN that she died "peacefully" Thursday morning in Los Angeles at an assisted living home, where she's lived for the past several years. She is survived by her grandson Thomas and her three great-grandchildren, Clem said. New York City subway train derails in collision with another train, injuring more than 20 people

A New York City subway train derailed on Thursday (Friday AEDT) after colliding with another train at low speed, leaving more than 20 people with minor injuries and causing major service disruptions across Manhattan during the afternoon rush hour, authorities said. At about 3pm (7am AEDT) on the Upper West Side, a 1 train carrying about 300 passengers and an out-of-service Metropolitan Transportation Authority train with four workers on board hit each other near the 96th Street station, police and transit officials said at the scene. A “derailment” happens when at least one wheel of a train leaves the track. The collision knocked out service on the 1, 2 and 3 lines in most of Manhattan, the MTA said.
