Julian Assange pleads guilty in US court
Julian Assange has pleaded guilty to a single felony charge in the courthouse of a remote US territory in the Pacific, ending a decade-plus legal saga over the publication of a trove of classified documents.
The plane carrying the WikiLeaks founder to apparent freedom landed in the remote US territory of Saipan in the ocean between Papua New Guinea and Japan shortly before 6.30am, his supporters posted on X, for the final stage of a plea deal reached with the US Justice Department.
Assange, clad in a dark suit with a bronze-coloured tie, arrived at the US courthouse in Saipan shortly before 8am AEST (Saipan is in the same timezone as Australia's east coast).
