Israel says its strike on Beirut killed a top Hezbollah military official as Lebanon reports 12 died

Israel launched a rare airstrike that killed a senior Hezbollah military official in a densely populated southern Beirut neighbourhood on Friday, the Israeli army said. It was the deadliest such attack on Lebanon's capital in years, with Lebanese health authorities reporting at least 12 people killed and dozens more wounded in the attack. The Israeli military's chief spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said the strike on Beirut's southern Dahiya district targeted and killed Ibrahim Akil, a commander of Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force, as well as 10 other Hezbollah operatives. The safety of Australia's backyard is the top priority for Anthony Albanese during the PM's visit to the US for the all-important Quad summit meeting. Albanese was hosted by US President Joe Biden at his home in Delaware before meeting with leaders of the Quad alliance: Australia, the United States, Japan and India. Boeing factory workers go on strike after rejecting contract offer

Aircraft assembly workers went on strike on Friday at Boeing factories in Washington, Oregon and California after union members overwhelmingly rejected a tentative contract that would have increased wages by 25 per cent over four years. The work stoppage involving 33,000 machinists will not disrupt commercial flights immediately but was expected to shut down production of Boeing's best-selling airliners, presenting another setback for a company already dealing with a damaged reputation and financial losses. Boeing stock was down 2.2per cent in morning trading, bringing its loss for the year so far to 38.9 per cent. Pope Francis criticises Trump and Harris, says voters must choose between ‘lesser of two evils’

Pope Francis on Friday described the choice US voters must make in the presidential election as one between the "lesser of two evils", deeming former US President Donald Trump's anti-migrant policies and Vice President Kamala Harris' support of abortion rights as both being "against life". "One must choose the lesser of two evils. Who is the lesser of two evils? That lady or that gentleman? I don't know," Francis said during a press conference on the papal plane, referring to Harris and Trump. "Everyone with a conscience should think on this and do it." Trump and Vance are still stoking fears of Haitian migrants, as Ohio community faces bomb threats

Donald Trump and his running mate on Friday continued to disparage Haitian migrants in an Ohio community, further fueling false claims the Republicans have promoted even as the city saw bomb threats and school evacuations and local officials called for a cooling of the anti-immigrant rhetoric. “We will do large deportations from Springfield, Ohio,” Trump said Friday during a news conference in California, adding that he could possibly hold a campaign event or town hall in the city and claiming the migrants are “destroying the way of life.” Ohio authorities have said there are no credible or detailed reports to support the debunked allegations circulated this week by both Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, that Haitian immigrants are eating domestic pets and birds i...
