Elon Musk lashes out after top gaming commentator accuses him of cheating

Elon Musk has lashed out at a prominent YouTuber and gaming commentator after he accused the billionaire of cheating at video games. Earlier this week, content creator Zack Hoyt, better known as Asmongold, accused Musk of having other people play games under his name to boost his public rankings. Hoyt, among other gamers, thought it would be impossible for Musk to reach level 97 on Path of Exile 2 while running several companies. Elon Musk posted screenshots of DMs sent between himself and Asmongold. (AP) In the videos Musk has streamed of himself playing Path of Exile 2, gamers have noted he didn't seem anywhere near good enough at the game to reach that high ranking. "I'm completely convinced he didn't play the character," Asmongold said in his YouTube channe...

Netanyahu says deal to release hostages held in Gaza has been reached

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said a deal to return hostages held in the Gaza Strip has been reached, after his office had said earlier there were last-minute snags in finalising a ceasefire that would pause 15 months of war. Netanyahu said he would convene his security Cabinet later on Friday and then the government to approve the long-awaited agreement. Netanyahu's statement appeared to clear the way for the Israeli government to approve of the deal, which would pause the fighting in the Gaza Strip and see dozens of hostages held by militants in Gaza released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. It would also allow hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians to return to the remains of their homes in Gaza. READ MORE: NSW Premier pledges to ...

Greenland’s leader says his people don’t want to be Americans as Trump covets territory

Greenland's prime minister said that the mineral-rich Arctic territory's people don't want to be Americans, but that he understands US President-elect Donald Trump's interest in the island given its strategic location and he's open to greater cooperation with Washington. The comments from the Greenlandic leader, Múte B. Egede, came after Trump said earlier this week that he wouldn't rule out using force or economic pressure in order to make Greenland — which is an autonomous territory belonging to Denmark — a part of the United States. Trump said that it was a matter of national security for the U.S. Egede acknowledged that Greenland is part of the North American continent, and “a place that the Americans see as part of their world.” He said he hasn't spoken to Trump, but that ...

Firefighters hope for a break from fierce winds fuelling devastating blazes in Los Angeles area

Firefighters hoped for a break on Friday from fierce winds fuelling massive blazes in the Los Angeles area that have killed 10 people, obliterated whole neighbourhoods and set the nation's second-largest city on edge. The fires have burned more than 10,000 homes and other structures since Tuesday, when they first began popping up around a densely populated, 40-kilometre expanse north of downtown Los Angeles. No cause has been identified for the largest fires. The level of devastation is jarring even in a state that has grown used to massive wildfires. Judge sentences Trump in hush money case but declines to impose any punishment

US President-elect Donald Trump was formally sentenced on Friday morning (2am Saturday morning AEDT) in a New York courtroom for his hush money conviction but the judge declined to impose any punishment. The outcome cements Trump's conviction while freeing him to return to the White House unencumbered by the threat of a jail term or a fine. Trump's sentence of an unconditional discharge caps a norm-smashing case that saw the former and future president charged with 34 felonies, put on trial for almost two months and convicted on every count. Supreme Court rejects Trump’s bid to delay sentencing in his New York hush money case

A sharply divided Supreme Court rejected President-elect Donald Trump's final bid to put his New York hush-money case on hold, clearing the way for him to be sentenced for felony crimes days before he returns to the presidency. The court's 5-4 order allows Judge Juan M. Merchan to impose a sentence on Friday on Trump, who was convicted in what prosecutors called an attempt to cover up a US$130,000 (A$209,000) hush money payment to porn actor Stormy Daniels. Trump has denied any liaison with Daniels or any wrongdoing. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined with the court's three liberals in rejecting his emergency motion. Donald Trump is due to be sentenced tomorrow, a week before he is sworn in as president. (AP) The majority foun...
