Man arrested near Taylor Swift’s home says he was there to see pop star

A man who numerous witnesses have said frequently waits outside or nearby Taylor Swift's Manhattan townhouse was arrested near her home for open warrants, admitting he was there to see the pop star, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation. On Saturday around 1:30 pm, police responded to repeated calls from neighbours of Swift about a disorderly man who had been hanging outside her building in Tribeca and refusing to leave the area, the source said. He was attempting to open a door, a spokesperson for the New York Police Department said. The man admitted he was there to see Swift when police arrived, the source said. CNN has reached out to representatives for Taylor Swift for comment. Police learned he had an active warrant and took hi...

Grand jury indicts Alec Baldwin in fatal shooting of cinematographer on movie set in New Mexico

A grand jury has indicted Alec Baldwin on an involuntary manslaughter charge in a 2021 fatal shooting during a rehearsal on a movie set in New Mexico, reviving a dormant case against the actor. Special prosecutors brought the case before a grand jury in Santa Fe this week, months after receiving a new analysis of the gun that was used. They declined to answer questions after spending about a day and a half presenting their case to the grand jury. Defense attorneys for Baldwin indicated they’ll fight the charges. “We look forward to our day in court," said Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, defense attorneys for Baldwin, in an email. While the proceeding is shrouded in secrecy, two of the witnesses seen at the courthouse included crew members — one who was present when the...

‘Good girl!’ Officer enlists a Michigan man’s dog to help rescue him from an icy lake

A man who fell through the ice on a frozen USlake was rescued after a quick-thinking state police officer used the stranded man's dog to get rescue equipment to him and pull the man to safety. Bystanders called 911 on Thursday after the 65-year-old Traverse City man fell through ice-covered Arbutus Lake, Michigan State police said. The body camera worn by Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer Kammeron Bennetts captured the rescue, initially showing the man trapped in frigid waters with just his head and shoulders above the thin ice, and his dog standing at his side. It shows Bennetts first trying to throw a rescue disc tethered to a rope out to the man. When it fails, Bennetts asks the man to send his dog to him. “Send your pup here. Will she come to me?” he yel...

Toddler ‘starved to death’ after father died of heart attack

A toddler is thought to have starved to death after his father died of a heart attack in the UK, with authorities reviewing what happened. Bronson Battersby, two, was found dead next to his father at a house in Skegness in England's north east. The family is blaming social services, which has launched a review. Bronson was found in the house with the body of his father, Kenneth, 60. Lincolnshire County Council executive director of children's services, Heather Sandy, described the deaths as "devastating". "It is a tragedy that Kenneth died of a heart attack," she told BBC Radio 4's World at One. "He was at home on his own with Bronson and that meant that there was nobody left to give Bronson care, and sadly as a result...

Ecuadorean prosecutor investigating TV station attack has been assassinated, attorney-general says

An Ecuadorean prosecutor, who was reportedly leading an investigation into an attack on a local TV network, was assassinated on Wednesday in Guayaquil, according to Ecuador's Attorney-General Diana Salazar. Cesar Suarez was killed in the northern part of the city, known for being one of the most violent cities in the country. He was a prosecutor for the Guayas province and he focused on organised transnational crime, Salazar said in a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. According to CNN affiliate Ecuavisa, Suarez was leading the investigation into the storming of local network TC Television by armed men while it was broadcasting live on January 9. "I am going to be emphatic, the organised criminal groups, criminals, terrorists will not stop our commitmen...

Mayor has ‘no regrets’ over signing off email ‘go f— yourself’

The mayor of a coastal town in New Zealand says he has no regrets about signing off an email response to a constituent's query with: "Go f--- yourself, kind regards, Len." "If people were to say this is not the language or decorum you expect from a mayor, I would take that criticism on the chin," Thames-Coromandel District Mayor Len Salt told Stuff. "But I have always said to the council, and the community, I will protect them. In a climate of increasing hostility towards elected representatives and their staff, I believe it was necessary." Salt said he believed the email, sent on July 10, 2023, came from a person associated with Sovereign Citizens, a group that is growing in New Zealand. Sociologist Paul Spoonley said the group's right-wing extremist views about elect...
