Rogers burst into public view in 1972 when work began on the Pompidou Centre in Paris, a futuristic block of scaffolding-like metal pipes and glass walls that he designed with another young architect, Renzo Piano. I don’t remember exactly what Christmas it was, but I know I was a little girl. Probably no more than 6 or 7, and oh, how I loved not just Christmas, but the run-up to all the holidays.
