Independence music department hits high note with shoe drive

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Students from the middle and high schools helped the music department take a step forward with a recent shoe drive that exceeded all expectations. The goal was to collect 2,500 pairs of quality secondhand shoes -- Cadysneaker  no small “feet” for a district the size of Independence. The schools, however, far surpassed the original objective by accumulating 4,447 pairs, which brought in $1,700. Half of the proceeds will go toward student trip accounts for, among other adventures, a 2022 trip to Florida. The other half will be returned to the music department to help defray costs associated with instruments, sheet music, accompanist fees, uniforms and other items. XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) ‑ Over 150 kids will receive new shows on Monday as part of the Shoes 4 the Shoeless annual program. The Greene County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #37 has been taking children shoe shopping for over 20 years before partnering with Shoes 4 the Shoeless in 2019. Sneakers2090 That year the two groups gave shoes to over 100 kids, Shoes 4 the Shoeless said. Prior to this, the lodge had only been able to serve 20-60 kids a year. “Shoes and socks are the biggest unmet need for children in poverty,” said Shoes 4 the Shoeless founder Kris Horlacher. By WHIO Staff GREENE COUNTY — Sheriff’s deputies and police officers in Greene County spent part of their day making sure some kids in the area have new shoes. It’s something that most people do everyday—put one shoe on after the other and head out the door. But for some, that simple task is more of a luxury to others. For years the Greene County Fraternal Order of Police has Nike Shoes for Men worked to help bring shoes to kids during the holiday season.
