Has Trump really ended eight wars? Fact-checking the president’s claim

If there is anything Donald Trump covets more than anything else, it's the Nobel Peace Prize. The president has repeatedly spoken of how much he deserved it, and raged in public and private at the country of Norway, which he believes is responsible for not giving it to him. At the centre of his claim for the prize is the boast that he has ended eight wars in a year. Reporters raise their hands as President Donald Trump speaks during a press briefing at the White House. (AP) But has he? "The short answer is no. And in fact, the short answer is not even close," Monash University senior lecturer in international relations Ben Zala told nine.com.au. "Two and a half, or, let's be generous and say three, are factually correct." Israel ...

Donors give hundreds of thousands to Trump heckler suspended by Ford

Donors have raised close to half a million dollars for a factory worker who was suspended for heckling Donald Trump. Ford worker TJ Sabula called the president a "paedophile protector" when he visited the plant in Detroit yesterday. Trump gave Sabula the middle finger and appeared to twice say "f— you". Donald Trump pointed at and appeared to swear at a factory worker who called him a "paedophile protector". (Supplied) Ford responded by suspending Sabula without pay. But the father of two young children said he had "definitely no regrets whatsoever". "I don't feel as though fate looks upon you often, and when it does, you better be ready to seize the opportunity," Sabula told the Washington Post. TJ Sabula said he had no regrets after heckling Don...

Trump claims Iran has ‘no plans’ for executing protesters as US weighs potential military strikes

US President Donald Trump claims Iran has halted plans for executing detained protesters, but refused to take the idea of military action off the table. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said he had been told Iranian authorities had "no plans" for executions, despite previous announcements from Tehran the first of them would begin today. "No, we're going to watch and see what the process is. But we were given a very good, very good statement by people that are aware of what's going on," Trump said when asked if he'd taken a military strike off the table. Denmark still has ‘fundamental disagreement’ with Donald Trump over Greenland after high-stakes meeting

Danish officials claim a "fundamental disagreement" over Greenland remains with President Donald Trump after highly anticipated talks with the vice president and secretary of state. It comes as Trump insisted anything less than total US control of the island would be "unacceptable". The two sides, however, agreed to create a working group to discuss ways to work through differences as Trump continues to call for a US takeover of the semi-autonomous territory of NATO ally Denmark. US President Donald Trump has made strong demands of Denmark surrounding the fate of Greenland. (AP) "The group, in our view, should focus on how to address the American security concerns, while at the same time respecting the red lines of the Kingdom of Denmark," Danish Foreign Minister La...

Clintons to face contempt proceedings after refusing Epstein investigation subpoenas

A senior congressman will begin contempt proceedings against Bill and Hillary Clinton after the couple refused to comply with a subpoena for an investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer threatened the contempt proceedings after the pair did not show up for a scheduled deposition. "Epstein's survivors deserve justice and answers," Comer wrote on X. Bill and Hillary Clinton have refused to testify in the Epstein probe. (Bruce Glikas/Getty Images) "Refusing to comply with a bipartisan, duly authorised congressional subpoena in our Epstein investigation is unacceptable. "No one is above the law." Comer's post on X included several photos of Mr Clinton which were released in the first batch of the Epstein files in December....

US military action in Venezuela is seen as both a blessing and a curse for Russia’s Putin

The lightning US operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro can be seen as both a benefit and a burden for Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose forces botched an attempt to capture Ukraine's capital and topple its leader at the start of Moscow's invasion nearly four years ago. The ouster of Maduro highlights another Kremlin failure to support an ally, following the downfall of Syria's former President Bashar Assad in 2024 and last year's US and Israeli attacks on Iran. With the US determined to establish control over Venezuela, Russia stands to lose a strategic foothold in the Western Hemisphere, along with billions of dollars invested in its oil industry. Russian President Vladimir Putin, left, shakes hands with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro during their meeti...
