Trump rages at some of his biggest former backers in lengthy Truth Social post

Donald Trump has lashed out at some of his most prominent former supporters in a long and angry post on Truth Social. The president took aim at the intelligence, mental health, appearance and personal lives of prominent commentators who have criticised him in recent weeks. Trump said Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens and Alex Jones were fighting him because they had "low IQs". US House to vote on DHS funding as travel chaos deepens

The US House of Representatives has been called back to the Capitol to vote on a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as airport travel delays sweep the country. The vote, which would fund DHS including its immigration agencies through to 22 May, comes hours after Republicans rejected a deal passed by the Senate to fund the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). TSA agents, who manage security in US airports, have not been paid in more than a month due to the congressional impasse. Many airports have seen long delays. The House bill is unlikely to be signed into law, as Democrats have pushed to halt funding to immigration agencies covered under DHS without reforms. The House is planning to vote on the measure late on Friday. If approved, it would then h...

Trump’s conflicting messages sow confusion over the Iran war

US President Donald Trump says the United States is winning the war with Iran even as thousands of additional American troops deploy to the Middle East. He has pilloried other countries for not helping the US, only to say later he does not need their assistance. He has twice delayed deadlines for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He has both threatened to "obliterate" Iran's energy plants if the vital waterway remains largely shuttered and said the US was "not affected" by the closure. Israel warns attacks on Iran ‘will escalate and expand’ as Trump claims advances in ceasefire talks

Israel threatened to "escalate and expand" its attacks on Iran on Friday, even as US President Donald Trump claimed talks on ending the war were going well and gave Tehran more time to open the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, meanwhile, gave no signs of backing down. With stock markets reeling and economic fallout from the war extending far beyond the Middle East, Trump is under growing pressure to end Iran's chokehold on the strait, a strategic waterway through which a fifth of the world's oil is usually shipped. Iran has rejected a 15-point US proposal for a ceasefire that includes it relinquishing control of the strait, but at the same time has ordered thousands more troops to the region — possibly in preparation for a military attempt to wrest the waterway from Iran. A first res...
