Romania condemns ‘irresponsible’ Moscow after Russian drone breaches its airspace

Romania has condemned Moscow's "irresponsible actions" after alleging that a Russian drone breached Romanian airspace during an attack on neighbouring Ukraine, prompting Bucharest to scramble fighter jets. The Russian drone used in attacks on Ukraine entered Romanian airspace at 6.05pm on Saturday (1.05am Sunday AEST), according to Romania's defence ministry. The incident comes days after Poland shot down Russian drones that had violated its airspace – prompting NATO allies to pledge to beef up defences on the alliance's eastern flank. Trump demands NATO countries stop buying Russian oil

US President Donald Trump says he believes the Russia-Ukraine war would end if all NATO countries stopped buying oil from Russia and placed tariffs on China of 50 per cent to 100 per cent for its purchases of Russian petroleum. Trump posted on his social media site that NATO's commitment to winning the war "has been far less" than 100 per cent and the purchase of Russian oil by some members of the alliance is "shocking." As if speaking with NATO members, he said on Saturday: "It greatly weakens your negotiating position, and bargaining power, over Russia". How Charlie Kirk changed conservative media – and US politics

Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed today, pioneered a new model for conservative political advocacy, merging multi-platform media commentary with in-person gatherings and get-out-the-vote drives. Kirk, 31, was a hugely successful political field organiser, TikTok influencer, radio host, nonprofit leader and public speaker all rolled up in one telegenic figure. One minute, Kirk would be on Fox News promoting his friend President Donald Trump's agenda; the next, he would be on X or Instagram, inviting young people to start conservative groups at their high schools and college campuses. New findings by NASA Mars rover provide strongest hints yet of potential signs of ancient life

NASA’s Mars rover Perseverance has uncovered rocks in a dry river channel that may hold potential signs of ancient microscopic life, scientists reported on Wednesday. They stressed that in-depth analysis is needed of the sample gathered there by Perseverance — ideally in labs on Earth — before reaching any conclusions. Roaming Mars since 2021, the rover cannot directly detect life. This image provided by NASA shows NASA's Perseverance Mars rover taking a selfie, made up of 62 individual images on July 23, 2024. The samples are awaiting retrieval to Earth — an ambitious plan that's on ho...
