Biden and Trump barrel into Super Tuesday, toward a likely November rematch despite voter concerns

United States President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump are poised to move much closer to winning their parties' nominations on Tuesday during the biggest day of the primary campaign, despite many voters preferring something other than a November rematch from four years ago. Super Tuesday elections are being held in 16 states and one territory — from Alaska and California to Vermont and Virginia. Hundreds of delegates are at stake, the biggest haul for either party on any single day. While much of the focus is on the presidential race, there are also important down-ballot contests. Missing part of Alaska Airlines plane that blew off mid-flight is found in Portland mans backyard, investigators say

The missing part of the Alaska Airlines aircraft that blew off mid-flight has been found in a backyard in Portland, the National Transportation Safety Board announced. A Portland school teacher named Bob reached out to the agency after he found the missing Boeing 737 MAX 9 fuselage door plug in his yard, NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said at a news conference. Federal investigators had been searching for the door plug since it blew off an Alaska Airlines aircraft after taking off from Portland on Friday, leading to the nationwide grounding of certain Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft and a slew of flight cancellations. The agency had asked for the public's help finding the part and had plans of possibly using a helicopter or drones to continue the search on Sunday. Homendy ...

Alaska volcano spews ash cloud high enough to draw weather service warning for pilots

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — An erupting volcano in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands sent a towering cloud of ash into the air Friday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue an inflight warning to pilots. The Shishaldin Volcano began erupting July 11, according to the Alaska Volcano Observatory. A U.S. Coast Guard overflight confirmed lava erupted the same day within the summit crater. A significant explosion at 1:09 a.m. Friday produced an ash cloud that reached up to 40,000 feet (12,192 meters) and drifted south over the Pacific Ocean. A second smaller explosion at 7:10 a.m. Friday reached about 15,000 feet (4,572 meters). The National Weather Service issued a inflight weather advisory due to the drifting ash cloud. Volcanic ash is angular and sharp and has been used as an indu...
