Rudy Giuliani must give control of luxury items and Manhattan apartment to Georgia election workers he defamed, judge rules

A US federal judge has ordered former Donald Trump attorney and New York mayor Rudy Giuliani to turn over all his valuable possessions and his Manhattan penthouse apartment to the control of Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the Georgia election workers he defamed and to whom he now owes $US150 million ($224 million). Judge Lewis Liman of the federal court in Manhattan said Giuliani must turn over his interest in the property to the women in seven days, to a receivership they will control. The judge's turnover order of the luxury items is swift and simple, but the penthouse apartment will have its control transferred so Freeman and Moss can sell it, potentially for millions of dollars. Trump’s former chief of staff says he fits ‘fascist’ definition and prefers ‘dictator approach’

John Kelly, the retired Marine general who was Donald Trump's White House chief of staff, told The New York Times that the former president fits "into the general definition of fascist" and "certainly prefers the dictator approach to government." The newspaper reported on Tuesday that in a recorded interview, Kelly was asked whether the former president met the definition of a fascist and responded by reading aloud a definition he'd found online. "Well, looking at the definition of fascism: It's a far-right authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology and movement characterised by a dictatorial leader, centralised autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy," Kelly said. Republican presidential nominee, former...

‘DJ Trump’: Trump town hall turns into impromptu concert after medical incidents

Donald Trump's town hall in the Philadelphia suburbs turned into an impromptu concert on Monday after the former president was twice interrupted by medical emergencies in the room. The Republican presidential nominee paused during a question-and-answer session as a doctor in the room attended to the first person to have a medical issue. After a second emergency halted the discussion moderated by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Trump stopped taking questions. How does the Electoral College work? Explaining the centuries-old system that decides the US election

When the United States heads to the polls for the election, the popular vote won't decide whether Kamala Harris or Donald Trump becomes president. Instead, it will be whoever wins the most Electoral College votes. It's a political system that's vastly different from our own here in Australia – and it's not without its critics. Here's how it works. It's not the popular vote that decides who wins the US election - its the votes of the Electoral College, like these ones. (AP Photo/Andrew Harnik) How does the Electoral College system work? Each state plus the District of Columbia is allocated a number of Electoral College votes. Whichever presidential candidate wins the popular vote in each state gets all of that state's electoral votes. There are...

Trump returns to Pennsylvania for a rally at the site of assassination attempt

Donald Trump picked up where he left off back in July when a gunman tried to assassinate him but only struck his ear before he raised his fist and shouted "Fight!" and was whisked away with blood across his face. "Tonight I return to Butler in the aftermath of tragedy and heartache to deliver a simple message to the people of Pennsylvania and to the people of America," the Republican presidential nominee said. "Our movement to make America great again, stand stronger, prouder, more united, more determined, and nearer to victory than ever before." Melania Trump calls her husband’s survival of assassination attempts ‘miracles’

In her first interview in more than two years, former First Lady Melania Trump said she saw her husband's survival in two attempts on his life as "miracles" and offered new details about the former president, including his desire to have more children. The Slovenian-born former fashion model has remained somewhat of an enigma in the 2024 election cycle. She has stayed largely absent from the campaign trail, breaking norms in not speaking at the Republican National Convention and skipping key moments for her husband, Donald Trump, including his primary-night victory parties and court appearances in New York and Florida. Melania Trump speaks during the opening day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in 2016. The former First Lady has been notably quiet dur...
