Former United States president Donald Trump has been held in contempt of court and fined US$9000 ($13,864) for repeatedly violating a gag order that barred him from making public statements about witnesses, jurors and some others connected to his New York hush money case. If he does it again, the judge warned on Tuesday, he could be jailed. Prosecutors had alleged 10 violations, but New York Judge Juan M Merchan found there were nine. The ruling was a stinging rebuke for the Republican former president, who had insisted he was exercising his free speech rights. A New York City subway train derailed on Thursday (Friday AEDT) after colliding with another train at low speed, leaving more than 20 people with minor injuries and causing major service disruptions across Manhattan during the afternoon rush hour, authorities said. At about 3pm (7am AEDT) on the Upper West Side, a 1 train carrying about 300 passengers and an out-of-service Metropolitan Transportation Authority train with four workers on board hit each other near the 96th Street station, police and transit officials said at the scene. A “derailment” happens when at least one wheel of a train leaves the track. The collision knocked out service on the 1, 2 and 3 lines in most of Manhattan, the MTA said.
