Famous faces take to streets as No Kings protests attract thousands across US

The mass "No Kings" demonstrations held across the US to protest US President Donald Trump and his military parade attracted some very famous faces. Over 2000 protests took place in 50 different US states to rail against "authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarisation of our democracy" under Trump, according to organisers. Marchers took to the streets at the same time a military parade rolled through Washington, DC, to mark the 250th anniversary of the US Army, which also happened to be Trump's 79th birthday. Trump threatens 50 per cent tariffs on EU and 25 per cent penalties on Apple as his trade war intensifies

US President Donald Trump on Friday threatened a 50 per cent tax on all imports from the European Union as well a 25 per cent tariff on Apple products, unless iPhones are made in America. The threats, delivered over social media, reflect Trump's ability to disrupt the global economy with a burst of typing as well as the reality that his tariffs have yet to produce the trade deals he is seeking or the return of domestic manufacturing he has promised voters. The Republican president said he wants to charge higher import taxes on goods from the EU, a long-standing US ally, than from China, a geopolitical rival that had its tariffs cut to 30 per cent this month so Washington and Beijing could hold negotiations. US President Donald Trump on Friday threatened a 50 per cent t...

Trump narrows focus on ‘killing America’s enemies’ in speech to graduate cadets

US President Donald Trump used the first service academy commencement address of his second term on Saturday (local time) to laud graduating West Point cadets for their accomplishments and career choice while also veering sharply into a campaign-style recitation of political boasts and long-held grievances. "In a few moments, you'll become graduates of the most elite and storied military academy in human history," Trump said at the ceremony at Michie Stadium. "And you will become officers of the greatest and most powerful army the world has ever known. And I know, because I rebuilt that army, and I rebuilt the military. And we rebuilt it like nobody has ever rebuilt it before in my first term." President Donald Trump salutes during the United States Military Academy co...

As US and China begin trade talks in Geneva, Trump’s tariff hammer looks less mighty than he hoped

The way US President Donald Trump sees it, beating China in a trade war should be easy. After all, his logic goes, the Chinese sell Americans three times as much stuff as Americans sell them. Therefore, they have more to lose. Inflict enough pain – like the combined 145 per cent taxes he slapped on Chinese imports last month – and they'll beg for mercy. Trump's treasury secretary, Scott Bessent has confidently compared Beijing to a card player stuck with a losing hand. "They're playing with a pair of twos,'' he said. Trump floats raising taxes on the rich to pay for his sweeping tax and spending cuts package

President Donald Trump said he's open to hiking taxes on wealthy Americans to help pay for Republicans' sweeping tax and spending cuts package, but the idea remains hotly contested among GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill. In a Truth Social post Friday morning, Trump said that he would "graciously accept" even a "TINY" tax increase on the rich, while acknowledging that it could bring political risks for Republicans. House GOP lawmakers have been struggling to find $US1.5 trillion ($2.3 trillion) in spending cuts to help offset trillions of dollars of tax reductions. In a Truth Social post Friday morning, Trump said that he would "graciously accept" even a "TINY" tax increase on the rich. President Donald Trump says good parts of US economy are ‘Trump economy,’ bad parts are ‘Biden economy’

President Donald Trump said the US economy was a mixture of his enacted policies and the effects of the Biden administration in a wide-ranging interview on NBC's Meet the Press with Kristen Welker. "I think the good parts are the 'Trump economy' and the bad parts are the 'Biden economy' because he's done a terrible job," Trump said in the interview. Trump recently completed his first 100 days in office, with 66 per cent of Americans saying they are pessimistic (29 per cent) or afraid (37 per cent) about the economy, according to a CNN/SSRS poll.
