Boeing factory workers go on strike after rejecting contract offer

Aircraft assembly workers went on strike on Friday at Boeing factories in Washington, Oregon and California after union members overwhelmingly rejected a tentative contract that would have increased wages by 25 per cent over four years. The work stoppage involving 33,000 machinists will not disrupt commercial flights immediately but was expected to shut down production of Boeing's best-selling airliners, presenting another setback for a company already dealing with a damaged reputation and financial losses. Boeing stock was down 2.2per cent in morning trading, bringing its loss for the year so far to 38.9 per cent. Pope Francis criticises Trump and Harris, says voters must choose between ‘lesser of two evils’

Pope Francis on Friday described the choice US voters must make in the presidential election as one between the "lesser of two evils", deeming former US President Donald Trump's anti-migrant policies and Vice President Kamala Harris' support of abortion rights as both being "against life". "One must choose the lesser of two evils. Who is the lesser of two evils? That lady or that gentleman? I don't know," Francis said during a press conference on the papal plane, referring to Harris and Trump. "Everyone with a conscience should think on this and do it." Trump in court as lawyers fight to overturn verdict in E. Jean Carroll sex abuse suit

Veering from the campaign trail to a courtroom, Donald Trump quietly observed Friday (local time) as his lawyer fought to overturn a verdict finding the former president liable for sexual abuse and defamation. The Republican nominee and his accuser, E. Jean Carroll, a writer, sat at tables about five metres apart, in a Manhattan federal appeals court. Trump didn't acknowledge or look at Carroll as he passed directly in front of her on the way in and out, but he sometimes shook his head, including when Carroll's attorney said he sexually attacked her. Former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney endorses Kamala Harris

Former Vice President Dick Cheney said that he will vote for Democrat Kamala Harris over fellow Republican Donald Trump in the November election, warning that the former president "can never be trusted with power again." "In our nation's 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump," Cheney said in a statement. "He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again." "As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris," he concluded. As vice president, Dick Cheney was an archvillain to Democr...

Arlington cemetery controversy deepens as Trump and Harris trade attacks

Donald Trump on Saturday continued to defend his visit this week to Arlington National Cemetery amid mounting criticism, including from Vice President Kamala Harris, who said the former president "is unable to comprehend anything other than service to himself." Veterans, service members and their families "should be honoured, never disparaged, and treated with nothing less than our highest respect and gratitude," Harris wrote on Saturday in a lengthy post on social media. "And it is my belief that someone who cannot meet this simple, sacred duty should never again stand behind the seal of the President of the United States of America."
