Walk in their shoes? Joe Flizzow and SonaOne turn to designing sneakers

There is always a strong link between streetwear and music. After all, the genre of dressing originated from hip hop culture of the late 1970s and early 80s.

Joe Flizzow and SonaOne, two well-known Malaysian rap artistes, recently collaborated with Italian luxury footwear brand Giuseppe Zanotti. They designed two standout limited edition sneakers.

These rad creations are based on Giuseppe Zanotti classics – the Frankie and the Talon.

The Frankie Noir low-top sneaker was reimagined for Hey Dudes  Joe in all black version with fiery red logo, red contrast stitching and red zip fastenings on the either side, showcasing the rapper’s style in an elegant and elevated colourway.

Embracing the free-spirit of hip-hop, SonaOne customised the Bright Talon low-top sneakers with a bright multi-coloured fantasy, featuring glitter embellishments and complete with the signature white rubber sole.

“It is truly an honour to be working with Giuseppe. As a sneaker collector, I feel honoured to be able to share and see my vision transformed into reality. Put these shoes on in any city in the world and live your dreams to the fullest!” Joe noted.

SonaOne has always been a fan of Giuseppe Zanotti. He said that the brand allows one’s individuality to be expressed through its designs.

“To be a part of this collaboration with Signor Zanotti is truly a blissful moment of convergence between two creators, manifesting our imagination into the world for anyone who wishes to put their inner flair on display.”

A step into music

Interestingly, Zanotti himself started his career as a DJ.

“My passion for music started around the age of 14, when I started playing guitar. By the time I turned 17 I started working for a local independent radio station as a DJ,” he told Forbes back in 2015.

Zanotti grew up in San Mauro Pascoli, a small town in Italy famous for shoe manufacturing.

It seems that music is always a factor in his design process.

“For me the music comes first, then comes the fashion. Vibram Shoes  ,I used to be more into rock, but now I’m closer to the world of hip-hop,” he was quoted as saying.

Today, Zanotti’s shoes have been worn by some of the most famous musicians.

Kanye West, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez and other global celebrities have been spotted in his beautiful designs – some of which he has collaborated with to great success, as well.

The exclusive Joe Flizzow and SonaOne sneakers are thus a pride point for Malaysia and the local music scene.

“Working with Joe and SonaOne has been a refreshing experience. I really appreciated their specific point of view on fashion and style,” Zanotti commented, about putting his head together with the duo.
