Former South Carolina Gamecock football players made moves around the NFL this weekend. Wide receiver Bryan Edwards was picked up by the Atlanta Falcons in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday. The Raiders traded Edwards and a conditional Boston Red Sox Jersey seventh-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft to Atlanta for the Falcons’ fifth-round pick next year. Edwards appeared in 29 games across two seasons in Las Vegas after he was drafted by the Raiders in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Last season, he was the third-most productive pass catcher in Las Vegas, bringing in 34 receptions for 571 yards and three touchdowns. He played at South Carolina from 2016-19 after graduating from Conway High School. Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Melvin Ingram signed with the Miami Dolphins in a one-year, $5 million contract, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday. Ingram signed with the Dolphins after starting in nine games for the Chiefs and playing a key role in Kansas City’s pass rush.
Ingram played under Steve Spurrier from 2007-11 at South Carolina before he was selected with the No. 18 overall pick by the San Diego Chargers in the 2012 NFL Draft. Ingram was selected to the Pro Bowl three times with the Chargers from 2017-19, was limited to one start during a one-year stint at Pittsburgh and found success again with Houston Texans Jerseys the Kansas City Chiefs when he was traded in the middle of the 2021 season.
Recent Gamecock defensive back Carlins Platel signed with Pittsburgh after attending the Steelers’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, the Steelers confirmed Monday. Platel went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft after transferring to South Carolina in 2021 out of Division II Assumption College. He played in 12 games for the Gamecocks and started in seven at the nickel position, ending the year with 21 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
