The former boyfriend of Princess Beatrice was found dead earlier this year in a Miami hotel room following a suspected overdose, according to reports.
The US city’s police department has confirmed the identity of a man who died in the citizenM Miami Worldcenter hotel on February 7 as Paolo Liuzzo, according to The Independent.
Officers were called to the room at 3.22pm on that day and Liuzzo’s time of death was reportedly given as 3.34pm.
His death, at the reported age of 41, remains open and active, police said.
They confirmed it is being investigated as a drug overdose.
The cause of his death has not been revealed.
The romance between Liuzzo, the son of an Italian business tycoon, and the then 17-year-old Princess Beatrice, daughter of Prince Andrew and his ex wife Sarah Ferguson, came to public light in 2005.
Liuzzo was invited by the princess’ parents to join the family on a skiing holiday to the Swiss resort of Verbier.
But the couple parted ways in 2006.
Liuzzo had struggled with a drug habit and gambling for some time, according to The Sun which initially reported the story.
His death certificate listed his residence as an apartment building close to the citizenM hotel.
He was listed as single and his occupation as an art industry consultant.
Princess Beatrice married the property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020.
